Video: Ride for Your L1fe – the story of all-diabetic team, Novo Nordisk
It’s been 14 years now since the team now called Novo Nordisk first joined the pro ranks. Known from 2008 to 2012 as Team Type 1 this American team is a mainstay in the sport’s second division and an organisation with a difference: every rider on the team has type 1 diabetes, adding another layer of complexity to the already tough job of being a pro cyclist.
The cycling team competes against both the sport’s absolute best and their own glucose levels, which they control with daily insulin shots.
Ride for Your L1fe is a new documentary film that follows the team throughout the 2021 season. As the filmmakers write:
“Is ambition and pioneering spirit enough to survive in professional cycling? With unbiased access to the team’s riders, mechanics, doctors and dieticians, the film documents an inspiring battle against a chronic illness and the prejudices that come with it.”
