TODAY'S RIDE
Preview: What you need to know about stage 19 of the 2022 Tour de France
Date: Friday July 22
Start: Castelnau-Magnoac
Finish: Cahors
Distance: 189 km
This should be a gimme for the sprinters after tackling the Pyrenees. Only two fourth-category climbs today, so a proper day for the fast men, finally. After 189 km the race arrives in Cahors, which is home to the castle of Cayx, owned by the Danish royal family. Nice work from the Tour organisers tying a neat bow around the Danishness of this race.
Who will win stage 19?
We’re hearing reports of possible crosswinds during the stage, which could work in favour of a last-ditch breakaway effort, or a late attack, but with so few sprint opportunities, the fast men will be desperate to bring the bunch home together.
The final kilometres once again rise towards the line, so if Caleb Ewan (Lotto Soudal) is feeling good he could be a shoe-in for the final dress rehearsal before the Big One on the Champs-Élysées. And he needs it.
