USA Cycling announces a new crit racing series
USA Cycling has announced the formation of a new criterium racing series that will offer a $100,000 prize purse across several events, six of which have been named so far.
Several of the races that will be part of the new series were part of the USA Crits calendar in 2021. The news comes two months after Scott Morris was dismissed from the role of USA Crits director after he received a SafeSport suspension.
USA Cycling worked with race directors and teams in creating the new series, which is as of yet unnamed. Further details are set to be unveiled in January of the new year.
“Championing the top criterium events in the U.S. is a priority for USA Cycling,” Chuck Hodge, USA Cycling’s Chief of Racing and Events, said in a statement. “Being able to put a spotlight on the races and riders as part of a professional criterium series directly serves our mission of promoting the sport of cycling.”
So far, the series will include the Saint Francis Tulsa Tough in June, the ASWD Twilight Criterium and the Salt Lake City Criterium in July, the Littleton Criterium and Momentum Indy in August, and the Bommarito Audi Gateway Cup in September.
