17 bikes stolen from Israel Cycling Academy truck
Israel Cycling Academy is the latest team to fall foul of bike thieves with the Continental team losing 17 bikes in a recent theft.
Israel Cycling Academy is the third-tier feeder team for WorldTour outfit Israel-Premier Tech.
On Monday, the teams’ shared Twitter account revealed that the bikes had been taken from a team truck near Girona, Spain.
The bikes are older-model Factor One aero road bikes with rim brakes. By contrast, the Israel-Premier Tech WorldTour squad predominantly rides Factor’s newer Ostro VAM superlight aero race bike, with disc brakes.
CyclingTips understands the stolen bikes had just been returned to Israel Cycling Academy after being on loan to a French Continental team.
The theft of pro team bikes continues to happen with alarming frequency. In October 2021, roughly 20 Italian national team bikes were stolen during the Track World Championships in Roubaix, France. A month earlier, the BikeExchange women’s team had its bikes stolen during the Tour de l’Ardèche in France.
Israel Cycling Academy is appealing for anyone with information to contact the team.
